From 1793-1834, Toronto, the capital of Upper Canada was called York. The neighbourhoods around King St. and Parliament St. including Distillery District and St. Lawrence Market are identified today as “Old Toronto”. Despite being next to downtown, this area is quite quiet and relatively underdeveloped with a number of old buildings.
