Mexican food

Mexico has great options for food. From $0.50 tacos on street carts to expensive restaurants where the dish can cost as high as they do in USA/Canada.I loved eating street food. I almost exclusively ate in markets and street corners.

Mexico City

Mexico city is a gigantic city, there is no other word to describe it. It is crowded, noisy, chaotic and somewhat polluted. I absolutely loved it!I frequently used the bus terminals to go to neighbouring towns, took about 17 rides in the awesome metro system and generally felt very comfortable here. There is a lot to see in Mexico city for which I have to come here again, and I will.

Teotihuacan

Teotihuacán, an enormous archaeological site just an hour away from Mexico City, contains some of the largest pyramidal structures built in the pre-Columbian Americas. The pyramid of the Sun is the third largest pyramid in the world.

Puebla and Cholula

About 2 hours from Mexico city, Cholula and Puebla make an excellent day trip or a weekend excursion.Cholula has a giant pagan pyramid over which the Spanish built a colonial church. Puebla's downtown is a UNESCO world heritage site and the town has a charming colonial feel to it.

Tula

Tula is the site of giant stone statues of Toltec warriors and pyramids that are still being excavated. The main cathedral in the city centre has a funky statue of Jesus which is worth checking out.

Taxco

Taxco de Alarcón is a small town in Guerrero state. It's a hilly town spread over mountain ranges and has been historically popular for its silver mines.I was going to spend only half a day here, but eventually I ended up spending three days - that's how much I loved the place.

Grutas de Cacahuamilpa National Park

The extensive cave system at the Cacahuamilpa national park, under Sierra de Guerrero, is plush with marvelous stalactites and stalagmites, which are absolutely worth checking out

Xochicalco

Spread over a desolate plateau, Xochicalco is a sprawling pre-Columbian archeological site that bears a remarkable affinity with the Mayans, the Teotihuacans, and the Matlatzincan cultures of central Mexico. Xochicalco became a regional power that filled the political vacuum created by the declining Teotihuacan empire around 600 CE.
