Bhutan in Pictures
↑ Me sitting outside the Punakha monastery
Bhutan is a very colourful country. Buddhist architecture, monasteries and cities spread around high ranges of the eastern Himalayas provide for lots of photo opportunities. I travelled here with a basic point and shoot camera (Canon Powershot SX100) and was fortunate to have mostly clear skies.

Monasteries of Bhutan
Bhutan is a deeply religious country and there are numerous Buddhist temples. From small shrines (Stupa and Chhorten) to massive fort-monastries (Dzong), there are lots of old and beautiful temples to see.
Cities, villages and towns
A visual tour of Thimphu (the capital city), Paro, and smaller towns of Punakha, Wangdue, Khuruthang, Phuentsholing. The bazars and bus stations are smaller, but can get busy quickly.
Stunning landscapes
Picturesque villages between fertile Himalayan mountain valleys make this country very beautiful.
Murals and artwork in temples
Buddhist monasteries have lots of intricate artwork to depict various visual symbolism associated with the religion.
People
I am very shy when it comes to photographing people, but I do enjoy taking pictures of locals as they go through their routines.

Hello,
we are planning a trip to Buthan and I liked your photographs! Can I ask you the name or Location of the monastery you photographed during blue hour / night time? Are most of the monastery lit at night? Thanks for your blog and Keep on travelling, the world is great! Best regards from Buenos Aires, Janette
Hello Janette, its the Punakha monastery. Most of the large monasteries are lit at night, but mostly for functional reason rather than touristic.
