↑ Chilies left hanging to dry from a house in Paro, Bhutan.
That’s one of my most favorite pictures of all times. π
I am back after some awe-wonder-amaz-incredible-ing-ful-some experiences in Bhutan, the little Himalayan country. There was lot of buses, shared taxis and hitch-hiking involved that took me to few monasteries and passes tucked away in the mountains. There was always a prayer flag hanging somewhere, lest you feel lost in the infinite ranges… π
↑ Himalayas are so beautiful and this country is right in the middle of it all!
Unfortunately my trip was shadowed by the shocking incidents in Mumbai, the latest victim of Pakistani terrorism, the city I grew up in. What depressed me more was the quality of our politicians, the so called leaders of Indian democracy. Even if you try hard, it is impossible to enjoy your holiday while the TV plays images of the attacks over and over.
I really wish these terrorists travel to different parts of the world, experience different cultures and enjoy the rich natural and social diversity that our little planet has to offer before choosing what they choose to do. I strongly believe that it is our differences, not homogeneity, that makes us rich.
Phew! that was a lot of ranting. I leave you with a picture of an unusual celebration in the sky, seen first from Cheli-La pass, 3900m. (Read more on Bob’s blog.)

I agree about that photo of the chillis…looks great!!
You are back!! I am really looking forward to your trip report.
Those chillies, are they really drying them or have them there for decorative purposes…you know like in New Mexico.?
Great photo! And yes, these terrorists travel too. ‘To distant cultures’ but mostly with the intention to kill and destroy.
@ Priyank : You know these say in Bhutan dogs do not eat crap because human feces are full of chilli. He he he he. I would have loved to have read a more complete description of your visit. Did you eat the chilli filled Ema Datshi or did they sneakily tone it down for you? I have a picture of fish drying in the sun somewhere. They like dried fish as well there.
Nice to see you are back. Look forward to more of this. the starters pretty mouth and eye watering π
Catharine:
Thanks so much! Naturally the real sight was many times better because it came with the sounds and smells π
Vamsee:
Yes! I am back, just yesterday. I will start writing soon!
The Bhutanese eat chilies a lot. These will be dried and consumed!
Shantanu:
LOL… that reminds me of some dialog in a movie about the Muslim invasion that began in 11 CE.
A man from Iran: I am going to India
Other man: I heard its wonderful
First man: Yes, we will destroy it…
Odzer:
hehehe… gimme some time man! I am still emptying my backpack into the washing machine!
I did have the Ema Datshi – the real one only once (couldn’t finish it) and the touristic versions thereafter. Fried fish – yes, dried Yak meat – yes, pork and chicken – ofcourse π
Rolling:
Thanks, I’ll start writing soon…!
welcome back.. a great picture..chillies do spice up things..we saw the smiley too..in a bright blur sky before twilight and clouds made them disappear for a while ..waiting to know more
Thankyou! I too barely managed to catch the sky pic!
Hi Priyank! You are back! Looking for some detailed travel experiences from your trip. About the terrorists, they wouldnt have been in the training camps if they had begun backpacking around and soaking in mother nature’s beauty.
It is amazing how such youngsters are led into doing such acts.
hmm, unbelievable indeed… and I hope to start writing real soon..!
Loved the photos. Share the same outlook on terrorism. It’s very sad that war is still going on in this lifetime. I wonder what would be in-store for the future generations. Shivers!
Thanks Kiran. I hope that terrorism is reduced real soon!
Hi Priyank! Glad to see you back! With a 48h day I would have time to enjoy your blog more often; shame on the time controller⦠;))
Loved to see Bhuttan on your blog (one of the many missing countries on mine… ;))
Venus, Jupiter and Venus; saw it in Lisbon, but had no decent camera available… ;))
Meanwhile Blogtrotter will be departing Tunisia 2007 soon, but managed to keep the delay in posting on twelve (12) months only. Great achievement⦠;)) Enjoy and have a great weekend!
Thanks for dropping by! Almost all the time I wish I had a longer day too π (Only in some cases I dontβ¦ lol!)
Sorry. and Moon…
How colourful! Liked that moon photo as well π
π Thanks GV!
Hey Priyank, Very good website π Please post soon your pictures of Russia. bye, Alex.
Nice to see you here Alex! I will post about Russia soon π
woow.. Colorful pic… If I had gone, would’ve emptied my wallet shopping π
LOL, we did that too π
Lovely pictures both and what to say about Mumbai!
Thanks Mridula!
Chilli photo is great. And what a shame that even when you were in such a nice mood to travel, something or the other happened to dampen the spirits.
True, we were constantly watching TV wherever we went – restaurants, hotels, shops, etc… But hey, the trip was smashing!
Again great shots, love the chilies shot as well, but the smiley face is just awesome, glad you took it.
ps, so true about what you said about terrorists, alas that will never happen, they don’t have a logical mindset, all they want to do is destroy things, no conscience at all!!!!!!! mini satins!! they suck so bad I can’t even comprehend how their thought processes work. God will have a special place in Hell for them, bet you can guess how much I hate terrorists, lol.
Thanks Bob. Mini Satans, yeah, sounds about right. Too unfortunate to see civilization moving backwards as time moves forward π
Sorry to hear about those terrorists attacks. It is not fair. And you know your fav picture is my fav, and love the night sky pic too….Excellent work, and amazing trip. Thumbs up to you Priyank!
BTW, got you last comment on my post, and to let you know my true nationality is Ukrainian, never been there though becasue I was born in Poland, now live in Canada and never been back to Poland since we left.
Anna π
Thanks Anna. The amount of chilies they eat is unbelievable π
I brought a bottle of lovely Ukrainian vodka from Russia recently. But you can’t have alcohol anyway π
Priyank, you collect alcohol, lol, lol! I guess you know me now.
Thanks for letting me know. I have some Japanese vodka from 2006 trip, still untouched, lol. Hopefully will not go bad, lol.
Anna π
Anna: Japanese vodka rom 2006 still untouched? That’s a bad piece of information to share with me, now I might shamelessly invite myself over for a drink at your place π LOL
Lol Priyank, lol, you better hurry up, we are deciding who is getting this one for xmas, recycling my gifts as usual – lol, but hey anything for environment.
Hey Happy Holidays, not sure if you celebrate xmas, but you have a good one too, and happy new year 2009, many happy travels. Lastly, it has been good year in travels for you, and good year for reading about your travels for me….
Anna π
PS Looks like blogging is keeping you busy, lol, I see all these comments coming through.
Happy Holidays and Xmas to you too Anna. I do not celebrate it, but I do like that others have a holiday (I am on vacation anyway π ) I hope next year will be filled with even more travels (and money to travel…lol)
Speechless! Amazing clarity on the night sky shot. Did you use a tripod?
Thanks Mahendra, yes I used a tripod. I liked the earthshine in the picture too!
