Famous people buried in a historic cemetery
The Necropolis cemetery is a historic cemetery in Toronto. Located on the west side of the Don Valley near Riverdale Farm, the cemetery is the final resting place for several famous Torontonians and Canadians. I went to two cemeteries that day: Necropolis and St. James cemetery.

What’s the difference between a cemetery and a graveyard?
Well, a cemetery has a church or a chapel next to it while a graveyard doesn’t. This church was small, humble, and looked like it was in an eternal state of mourning and sorrow.
I find it fascinating how some religions and cultures maintain a physical location with tombstones setup to remember their loved ones. It’s a sweet thought.
I thought that the sculpture above was very touching. It’s simple dark profile is capable of telling so many stories…
- Maybe it was a small family and they were being separated. Perhaps the men were being asked to go and labour in the factories, or perhaps the family was escaping and the woman simply couldn’t walk any further. And it was the last time they saw each other.
- tell me what other story did you think…

i agree..the sculpture is touching..what do u think is their story??
Hi Gautami, I added my story to the post, your turn now!
Good shots! These places don’t look as creepy under a nice blue sky, do they!
Nope, not at all, although the dry trees give a nice touch.
my story- Winter has started and it is a cold night. Father and mother have been working in field the whole day. Both are extremely tired. Their kid is resting on father’s shoulders and dad is holding him tightly..it is getting windy and the family has no place to stay. The women is worried about it, looking away from her husband. But the husband has glued his eyes on his sweetheart.
Why do you think there is a sad story associated? On a tombstone, people will usually reminisce the good times spent. I think these sculptures are to leave a mark of the sweet moments of together.
*sweet moments of togetherness..
Hey Priyank sorry for not being here while your great makeover. I really like your blog style now. I also like your photographs, they really look great. Thanks for sharing all info here, I personally did not know about the cemetery and the graveyard differences.
Also, thank you so much for visiting my blog.
You know now that we are on the topic of cemeteries. I did some personal research on the first pet cemetery in Canada that is actually located in Aurora. Its been sold to the developer, so probably will be gone. I am trying to take some pictures, but I don’t know if I have guts to enter, lol, it is under video surveillance, plus the scary stories.

Hi Anna,
Nice to see you! That’s a very interesting historical fact about pet cemetery (or should we call it graveyard?)… I read about it on your Aurora blog. I hope you can be Sherlock Holmes and enter the premises. It’s a pity that such sites are being sold for profit.
