Mayans, Teotihuacans, Aztecs, Spaniards and lots of vitamin D

“Going to Mexico in winter is such a Canadian thing to do…” someone said.
Indeed, its typical for people to get away from the frigid winter in Toronto and spend a week or two on cruises or all inclusive trips to resorts and beaches. Well since I am not a fan of either, I am doing my own solo trip and soaking up the sun.

“Immigrants from tropical countries are very likely to suffer from deficiency of vitamin D in winter, so take these pills…”
Yeah right, pharmaceutical company propaganda. Oh wait,…

2010-12-12_flag_of_mexico Mexican flag. I’ll be there in January 2011!

The plan

Starting from Mexico City, the third biggest city in the world, I hope to explore towns and ruins around it: Puebla, Cholula, Taxco, Cuernavaca, Pachuca, Tula and ofcourse the famous ruins at Teotihuacan.

Then I fly to Merida, the capital of Yucatán state, hop on chicken buses to see various predominantly Mayan archeological sites, and stop at the new wonder Chichen Itza on the way to resort town of Cancun.

Preparations

The most important thing I’m doing is learning some Spanish. When I went to Peru, I strongly felt the language barrier. Just 2 months of learning Russian and my trip to Russia was fantastic.

Other than that, I have to somehow lay my hands on a student ID, get worked up and worried over carrying a DSLR camera and/or a laptop and do some shopping.

Thankfully, I haven’t put my summer clothes away yet… the fight against Montezuma’s revenge is just a month away. :-)
