Four days in Montréal.
I went to Montréal for the 4 day long weekend last week. The weather was fantastic, as high as 27ºC, giving everyone a much awaited respite from snow and cold.
Enjoying the spring sun at Lafontaine Park
While there were residual heaps of snow lying around, most people were looking forward to getting a tan (I tell them that I was born with one, lol).
Cobblestone street in Old Montréal district
Montréal’s old town is cute like many others, with little streets, cafes and things to discover.
Rue Sainte-Catherine is an important street in downtown Montréal
This is the street where you find a restaurant, a clothing store and a strip club next to each other, and quite frequently!
Montreal downtown viewed from Mont Royal
Mont Royal (from which the name of the city comes) is a hill in the middle of the city, and a good excuse for a pleasure hike.
Montreal has dedicated bike streets! Its incredible
I loved the cycling infrastructure in Montreal. Toronto has quite a lot but different kind.
Hand drums (tam tam) fest at Mont Royal
This is a summer thing. A place to catch the sun, hangout, play drums, dance, drink and smoke (illegal stuff).
Lunch at the Quebec’s traditional Cabane à sucre (Sugar shack)
Sugar shack is a place where maple syrup is made. I shared table with strangers, had eggs, beans, meats, dessert – all with maple syrup. ![]()
Overall, Montréal was so enjoyable that I cannot wait to go back!

I skipped Niagara cos of the cold..hope we get to meet next time if I hopefully do get another chance to get there
Yes I certainly hope so Lakshmi! I think you took a good call, it would have been pretty cold there!
Glad you enjoyed Montréal! I like your pictures of the vieux Montréal. Did you know that “Montréal” = “Mont Royal” = “King Mountain” ?
I was in Toronto last WE and we had similar unusually high temperatures. Love it.
Hi Zhu, yes I found that when I was reading Montréal’s history… I love the fact that its named after the mountain!
It does look like a European city. Although there are North American aspects to it as well, judging from your pictures, it has something to do with the cobblestones and size.
I agree and that’s what I’ve been told too. There is the French part of the town and the English part (which is kinda ‘normal’).
we are literally burning out here in delhi with 40 degrees celcius temperatures!!!
nice shots of the city…..

This is making me cry…So many memories. I lived in the French-Canadian section, 10 minutes from Lafontaine Park. I studied in a major hospital, (St-Luke) 5 minutes from Ste-Catherine St. For me, it’s the most beautiful city in the world. It was called Ville-Marie in colonial time. I left and came to work in English Canada so that I could become fluently bilingual. I was successful but I married a British gentleman, and never returned to live in the city of my birth. Thank you for loving it, and sharing your fantastic photos.
Bonjur Claude, I loved walking in the neighbourhoods around Lafontaine park, its really great and now after reading this, I am thinking of visiting Montréal again in the summer.
