Charms of an animal farm in a little town in NorthEastern Ontario
I spent few days of the 2009 Christmas holidays at Chad’s dad’s place, in his charming house near Timmins, a town about 800km north of Toronto. He keeps reindeer and rabbits (among other animals) and it was fun to spend time watching them.
That’s what the house is called

The herd.. Just chillin’ (literally!)
The rabbits love stealing reindeer feed and are skilled at escaping their horns. The reindeer are fed twice a day and they will quickly gather around the dinner table as soon as a bell is rung.

More wild rabbits basking in the sun at -15ºC. They run around outside the house all day long unless a predator is lurking in the bushes.
The deer seem to love sleeping out in the open

Everytime I see animals I feel weird. Animals just exist – grazing and mating. Why don’t they want to read books or eat Thai food?

Glad we finally met in TO.
It looks colder than in Toronto, doesn’t it? Nice pictures though. We do have a lot of rabbits in our suburban area because of the experimental farm nearby.
After we met, we ended up moving to another hotel in Mississauga, where it was much cheaper. We were at Nathan Phillips Square for the fireworks, and then off to Niagara Falls and Buffalo the next day.

Ya, even I sometimes felt that animals are like those really cool ‘people’ who don’t need to offer any explanation to anyone.

That is how we should exist -for eating and mating:) instead of getting all caught up in career and money and other such stuff.
Saw Caribou in Alaska a while back…..funny looking deers. Those bunnies are cute!

I always wonder what pets think about our habits. It must seem so strange to them we spend lots of time starring at small boxes and pecking away at them.

Those pictures of bunnies look yummy. I suppose one can cook a few of them for stew?

Wow this is so cool. It is nice to be away from the city, lol. Love those little bunnies. We back in Europe used to have them too, but on the end we used to consume them, so much for a pet rabbit, lol. Anna
hahaha, it seems raising rabbits for consumption is a common thing.
But its fun to have them around, very entertaining and very cute!
Cute rabbits! Seeing the reindeers reminds me of our winter holidays in the Swedish region Jämtland. We sometimes spotted reindeers on the mountains while we were skiing.
As for “Animals just exist”, I don’t really agree. You know, they have different habits just like us humans.

How does reindeer meat taste? (Close to taste of chicken or beef or pork or mutton).
Hi Celine, I am not so familiar with beef and mutton. I had them only once or twice and didn’t like the strong taste. However, I think its more similar to pork than chicken. I found it light and easy.
