Rail tracks, next to the airport and I saw a train during takeoff
Journey back home
We had breakfast with the visitors and wished them a good journey ahead. It was time to leave this beautiful place. There was a bus to Aluva waiting for the three of us at the bus stand. The ride was long and down hill for the initial part and on flat land after Kothamangalam. We traveled significantly in the plains but noticed that roads in Kerala are full of turns and bends and straight patches occur seldom.
The obscure Airport – in case you miss the sign
At Aluva we purchased some packets of fresh banana chips fried in coconut oil, a signature snack of Kerala. The Cochin airport is now located at Nedumbassery, about 13 km from Aluva, but few people in the town seem to know about it.

Security checks at Cochin airport was extra tight and my rucksack was scanned and re scanned. I had to leave my deospray behind and explain many other things (we had huge packets of banana chips).
Cochin (Kochi) airport, nice to see a well designed airport.
Epilogue
Many people had declared that this 5.5 day trip would be very hectic and it was sinful to travel to Kerala for such a short duration. Never mind all that. We had a blast and I can’t wait to go back to Kerala once again. It is a state of genuinely hospitable people, delicious foods, and endowed with infinite natural beauty.
Thanks for staying with me on this journey!

While there have been many reasons to like Kerala, reading William Dalrymple’s latest, Nine Lives, piqued my interest considerably. Not for the natural beauty in this state, but for the quaint and ancient rituals such as the Theyyam dances which have an amazing story/history.
Hi Shantanu! The history and preservation of culture is quite remarkable in Kerala, I felt it often and read about it often too.

How are roads in kerala for a 7 days trip fm Bangalore to Trivendrun, kanyakumari, munnar etc
Hello Suren, unfortunately I have no idea about the state of roads currently.
I agree with you that Kerala is a place that one would like to return to again and again.
Hmm I don’t know when that will happen next Celine!
Hi all, the travelogue to Kerala was superb. I too had wonderful trip. out of the whole trip to Kerala, I like the most was Trivandrum, especially Kovalam Internation beach. I was astobished to see such wide and beautiful roads there with long tree lined avenues. You could mistake Trivandrum for some foreign locale. Koalam beach was my favourite, similar to Goa beaches and unlike other rocky beaches of Kanyakumari. It has lot of 5 star hotels, including Leela Kempinksy, Taj and many other big and small hotels. Trivandrum has beaches, rivers and hills. We met a lot of IT guys from the largest IT park in India called the Technopark. The Airport is also of International standards. It is so serene that you feel like you have reached heaven. Ponmudi is a calm hill nearby Trivandrum. The second place I liked was Munnar. It is heaven on earth. But I had to pack off in a days time as I was short of time.
Thanks Rohit! Welcome to my blog and thanks for sharing a snippet of your tour!
Hey, was just wondering why did you do this trip bottom (Kanyakumari) to top (Cochin)? Common itineraries i have seen are cochin to kanyakumari.
and so 6 days are sufficient? or u wud recommend one more day at munnar or some other place?
Hi Raji, I sent you an email. It was quite a spontaneous trip and the only thing I knew was a flight to Trivandrum and returning from Cochin (that was the flight ticket).
