Oh, summer ends… how about some Canadian winter jokes?
Only 20:30 and it was pitch dark outside… I was wearing shorts and I felt a cool breeze… people are seen wearing light jackets on street at night… all these are signs that scream at you saying: SUMMER IS OVER! ![]()
I’m dedicating this post to some jokes about Canadian seasons that people love to share. Hope they make you laugh too!
- There are only two seasons in Canada: Winter and Summer
- There are only two seasons in Canada: Winter and Construction
- There are only two seasons in Canada: 8 months of Winter and 4 months of bad ice skating
- There are only two seasons in Canada: Very cold and cold
- We only have winter in Canada. Oh and there’s August too
- Actually there are four seasons in Canada: almost winter, Winter, still winter and waiting for winter
- Driving is better in winter because potholes are filled with ice
- People (that includes me) wear shorts as soon as it hits 15ºC
- Schools don’t declare a ‘snow day’ unless there is a severe blizzard
When I went to India last year after spending 2 years in Canada, I was shocked to discover how Canadianised I had become. These are some of my real quotes:
- “How was Bhutan?” someone asked me. “Pretty warm, it was 8 or 10 ºC or so…,” I said in a matter-of-fact way. Recalling that I was in Mumbai, I immediately corrected myself, “Oh it was extremely cold…”
- “I can’t find my jacket…!” I was screaming across the house as I was going out (never leave your house without a jacket). Then I remebered it was Mumbai, where people seldom wear full sleeve shirts, forget having a sweater or a jacket.
Some of my snow / winter education…
- One of my first jobs in Canada was “clearing the snow” off driveways.
- I can actually distinguish between different types of snow. I’ll show you when it snows.
- When there’s blue sky and very sunny outside,… the wind chill is probably -20ºC or so.
- Don’t even attempt to answer your cellphone while you are wearing thermal gloves.
- Hat is a part of your body.
- It’s okay to go to people’s houses and remove your snow boots at the door. Infact, its expected.
- Wear snow boots, always.
- Never eat yellow snow.

Strange… I am kinda looking forward to snow…

Ha ha…reminded me of my days in Detroit!
LOL, yeah certainly… But in Detroit you don’t get “Canadian winter”… LOL Somehow it stops at the border (or so people think!)
Ha! Those sentiments are still true where I am, and perhaps even more since I’m on the wrong side of the lake! Only upon coming to Buffalo have I learned of lake-effect snow, lake-effect rain, even lake-effect turbulence, as a pilot announced one day when I was flying to Buffalo!
ohh poor you… you guys are just wannabe Canadians….
Ehh, right. Yo no soy amerikano. Repeat that three times. :-/
LOL
here i am (snow)
lol j/k i can’t wait for it to start snowing yay! my 3rd winter here and i’m still lovin’ it
LOL Snow! Its my 3rd winter here too.
Priyank my dear what are you doing to me, you cannot and cannot start thinking about winter, lol, lol, lol. Kidding aside, thanks for the laughs, lol, and there is something we have in common: ‘One of my first jobs in Canada was “clearing the snow” off driveways.’ – the only difference was that I went to with my cousins and they took ‘all’ the payments to themselves, damn. But I have to agree with you, days are getting shorter, cooler, and I see yellow and red leafs already. Anna
Hi Anna,
Oh you are right, I must not think about winter, but the signs are all over and I can’t help lament the fact that summer is almost over (as if there was ever one). Watching Fall colors and walking through a carpet of dry crunchy leaves is one of my favorite activities. So we shared something similar in our initial jobs here, thats a nice coincidence. Maybe you can tease your cousins and ask them to pay your share back, with interest ofcourse!!
Sounds like fun.
Oh, been there!
I have almost the same “snow education” picture: I jumped in it the first time I saw a blizzard and the neighbors must have thought I was crazy!
I also wear sandals and skirts when it’s barely 15C. And I recently told a newcomer that December wasn’t that cold, “it almost never get below -15C”. And I was serious.
The blue sky days confused me at first, because it looks hot… from the inside!
I’m not looking forward to winter though. Till December it’s okay, but the following 4…5 months really drag.
Hi Zhu! I bet you have played “snow fights”? LOL. It was entertainment for people on the street! The length is really drag, I wish we had all snow in a month and be done with it (even get couple of holidays). So see, we both have similar acclimatization to Canada!
I absolutely love the winters. I first experienced what you might call a mild winter when I was in College in Uttaranchal. But it was so thrilling. You get to wear layers of clothes, monkey-caps, thermals and all kinds of jackets and sweaters.
I first experienced snow when I was in the US. And it was heavenly. Experiencing the first snowfall felt like Gods sending down blessings from heaven in tiny crystal forms. I absolutely loved the snow.
Glad to hear that!
I hve never seen snow in my life ever. except from the distnce. this post I enjoyed. very very much.
Thanks Trisha! I remember my first experience of snow in the Himalayas. It was a glimpse at first, but the next night our camp was right in snow, lol
Haha! What a funny post!
I’ve always loved snow. The winter can be such a beautiful time of the year.
hehehe, I love snow too, just that the non-snowy part of winter is too long…
Summer ends and winter begins? Hello, what about Fall? Is it too late to set off for a bit of leaf-peeping?:)
Yea yea there will be Fall ofcourse: One of my favorite things to do here is watch the Fall colors since we seldom had anything like that around Mumbai. Its still very early – fall colors only peak around Toronto in mid-late October.
Mid-late October I hope to be in the Americas.;)
