Bike Stands
City of Toronto has a good infrastructure for cyclists. Off-street bicycle racks like these are present every few meters on most (if not all) sidewalks in downtown Toronto.

Bike theft is very common in Toronto. People spend a fortune ($50, or $100, or…) on a good lock.

My personal favorite!
There are several ‘bike rack sculptures’ in my neighborhood (Parkdale / Queen west). All these pictures are taken from places less than two minutes from my apartment. I hope you liked them.

Hi Gopinath, yes there are bike lanes on many streets. But the city has major plans to put lanes on virtually every major route. Its nice!

This is really cool! Haven’t ever seen anything like them before. I remember the ones in India (a long time back when people actually went to work on bicycles), but they were small semicircles rising from the ground.
Ah, Shantanu, I remember those rings too! I’ve seen them in few places here.
Very interesting and creative! Funny I never noticed them when I was there, but then again, I was only there for a day-trip, not enough to sink the city into my system.

We have bike stands here in Manchester too but they are very rare and not so creative.

@ Priyank : Nice stands. We have separate lanes for bicycles but no bicycle stands like this yet. Although this being India, it seems no one uses those bicycle lanes
haha, the fact that bike lanes exist is a big thing in itself!
That was a really nice series of pictures on bike racks. Didn’t realize Toronto was this big in biking…what with all that winter weather. This puts California to shame.
Thanks Vamsee. Bike season is very dominant from early spring to late fall, thats almost 7 months. Some people bike even during winter (non snow periods), but I don’t because it gets too squishy on the street… !
